Gatsby Fashion: Subtle & Literal

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     Release your inner jazz baby, and get inspired by the boozy glamour of the roaring 20’s! The trailer’s for The Great Gatsby honestly look SO fabulous, and I found myself dying to emulate 20’s fashion. However, fashion’s elite has pounded into us the “Don’t appear too costumey!” mantra, so heeding their warning I styled this look. Follow these tips to bring the 20’s to 2013.

Flapper-esque fabrics in a completely opposite shape evokes the 20’s without looking like Halloween; a tortoiseshell headband (w/ fake bob) feels more subtle than a head scarf; and a beaded shell purse is so Art Deco but still metallic modern. All that being said, don’t be afraid to be literal either! The infamous Daisy Buchanan from “Gatsby” was the inspiration behind choosing this dress with embroidered daisies! Subtle & literal; the perfect Gatsby irony…experiment for yourself and share w/ me!

“In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.”-The Great Gatsby

P.S. Mix metallics; silver & gold 2gether works!
